Why We Don’t Take Insurance at SUNRISE Therapies—and What That Means for You

Our Approach to Therapy and the Reason Behind Our Private-Pay Model
One of the questions we hear is, “Why don’t you take insurance?” So we wanted to take a moment to share a little more about our “why.”
If you’ve ever tried to decode an insurance policy, you know it’s not for the faint of heart—there’s in-network vs. out-of-network, co-pays, deductibles, and about a dozen other confusing pieces. But beyond the paperwork, insurance often places limits on the kind of care you can receive—and the kind we can provide.
We believe in delivering high-quality, personalized, and holistic therapy. But when insurance companies step in, we’re often boxed into rigid schedules: limited session counts, restricted time for patient education, and pressure to fit progress into an 8- or 12-week timeframe. That’s simply not how healing—or growth—works. Every individual is different. Progress isn’t linear, and therapy shouldn’t be either.
That’s why we’ve chosen a private-pay model. It gives us the freedom to focus on what truly matters: you and your family’s unique and incredible journey.
We know opting for an out-of-network provider can feel overwhelming, but we’re here to support you every step of the way. We’re happy to provide superbills for possible insurance reimbursement (coverage varies by provider), and there are also local funding resources—like the San Diego Regional Center—that may offer additional support for families.
If you have questions, feel free to reach out—we’re always happy to talk it through. Hop on over to our Contact Page to read our FAQs or send us a message!
